Raks Assaya via Aida Nour - In Raqs Al Assaya (Pronounced "rocks all uh SI yuh"), a cheerful dance from the Sa’id (Pronounced “Sai-eed” and references Upper Egypt), the dancer twirls a cane in playful imitation of the men’s regional martial art. (The men’s version, Tahtihb, is performed with heavy staffs and is more combative in nature) Raqs Al Assaya may be presented as folkloric dance, or elements of this dance may be adapted for cabaret-style Oriental dance. Saidi women's dancing is very grounded, sassy & proud.
In this class session, students will learn basic cane vocabulary as well as a full dynamic choreography suited for a group or soloist inspired by Aida Nour.
Students need to provide canes for class.
This class is 8 weeks long and held for 1 hr per week.
